Qualifier 1 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 witnessed an intense clash between the Gujarat Titans (GT) and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium where the MS Dhoni-led side emerged victorious and booked a spot in the finals.

Put in to bat, the Super Kings posted a competitive total of 172 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Opener Ruturaj Gaikwad played a significant innings, smashing 60 runs off 44 deliveries, including 7 fours and 1 six. Devon Conway also chipped in with 40 runs off 34 balls with 4 fours. Mohammed Shami and Mohit Sharma were the standout bowlers for the Gujarat Titans, taking 2 wickets each.

In response, the Titans’ batting lineup faltered, and they were bowled out for 157 runs in 20 overs, losing the contest by 15 runs. Shubman Gill top-scored with 42 runs off 38 deliveries, including 4 fours and 1 six. All-rounder Rashid Khan played a quick cameo, scoring 30 runs off just 16 balls, but it wasn’t enough to secure the victory. For the Super Kings, Deepak Chahar, Maheesh Theekshana, Ravindra Jadeja, and Matheesha Pathirana, all claimed 2 wickets each.

CSK will now meet the winner of Qualifier 2 in the summit clash. Notably, the second Qualifier will take place between Gujarat and the winner of Eliminator (Lucknow Super Giants vs Mumbai Indians).
