Pakistan’s star all-rounder Shadab Khan suffered a nasty blow on his debut match at the T20 Blast for Sussex County Club on Friday (May 26). The leg-spinner had an awful collision with his fellow teammate Nathan McAndrew during a match against Somerset and was immediately taken off the field as a precautionary measure. Notably, Shadab is one of the nine Pakistani cricketers to be part of this year’s Vitality T20 Blast.
The unfortunate incident happened in the second innings of the game when Shadab and McAndrew ran for a catch on Ravi Bopara‘s delivery. Due to having their eye’s on the ball, the duo ended up diving into each other and fell onto the ground. Both the players struggled to get up after the collision and lay on the field for several minutes. Although McAndrew got up and took the field in the end, Shadab seemed to have injured himself badly and was taken off the ground.

Following the collision, the medical team continuously monitored Shadab, and he didn’t take part in the remaining match. Meanwhile, McAndrew cleared the concussion protocol and went on to complete his quota of four overs. However, Sussex failed to win the contest and were handed over a five-wicket defeat.
Amidst the concern over Shadab’s fitness and health, the head coach of the Sussex Club, Paul Farbrace, later confirmed that Shadab and McAndrew are both doing well.
“Shadab is alright. He has a bit of a sore neck. The doctor felt that it was best to take him out of the game, nervous of obviously concussion. They both are alright, that’s the most important thing,” said Farbrace.
On the other hand, Shadab also took to his official Twitter account and shared the news of his well-being a day after the collision.
Alhamdulilah I am better and feeling good. My concussion tests are all done. As a precaution I will take rest for a few days. Thank you for all ur prayers and support
