Indian cricket superstar Virat Kohli is widely regarded as one of the best batters in the world, as he has achieved numerous records and accolades throughout his phenomenal career. Kohli, who is known for his exceptional batting skills, superb consistency, high-class technique, and aggressive playing style, recently unveiled the profound significance behind his jersey number 18.

Kohli has been wearing the 18th number jersey for both India and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL ever since he started to play higher-level cricket. The RCB star reckoned there is a deeper, mystical connection or significance associated with his jersey number, and he finds it remarkable and almost unbelievable that so many people now wear his jersey number and have his name on their backs.

The Delhi-born termed it as a surreal feeling and said he never envisioned himself being in this position of recognition and popularity. Kohli said as a child, he aspired to wear the jersey of his own hero, never imagining that one day he would be the one inspiring others to wear his own jersey.

“There has to be a cosmic connection with this number. I find it quite surreal even now to be honest when I see so many people wearing my jersey number and name. It’s quite surreal because I never imagined that I would be in this position one day. I was a kid wanting to wear my hero’s jersey at a certain given point,” said Kohli in a video shared by Star Sports.

Kohli mentioned that he received his first India U19 jersey with the number 18. He also revealed that two highly impactful events in his life are associated with the number 18. Firstly, his debut for the Indian team occurred on August 18, 2008, and his father passed away on December 18, 2006.

“To be honest 18 started off just being a number that was given to me when I opened that first India U19 jersey. I never asked for it, it was just given to me.But then it ended up becoming a very important number in my life. My debut came for India on August 18, 2008. My father passed away on December 18, 2006. Two of the most significant dates in my life happened to be 18,” added Kohli.
