The much-awaited World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2023 is almost here, and both the finalists of the events are all set to take on each other in the ultimate battle. Notably, the title decider of the WTC 2021-23 cycle will be played between India and Australia from June 7 at the Kennington Oval in London.

With not much time left for the International Cricket Council (ICC) event, many cricket experts have come up with their predictions and picked the likely winners of the tournament. Among all, South Africa legend AB de Villiers also picked the favourites to win the marquee event.

During a show on Jio Cinema, De Villiers named Rohit Sharma-led side as the probable champions of WTC 2023. Although the Proteas cricketer initially emphasized that it’s difficult to pick between two strong teams, he later went with India citing their last performance in a Test against England in the Oval.

“Very difficult to say who are the favourites. Both teams have not been playing a lot of Test cricket of late but what I can say is that India in their last Test match at the Oval have got a win against this very strong England team. They will be taking a bit of confidence from that,” said De Villiers.

“I think India will come out on top on day five of the Test match. I think it might go all the way. It’s a good wicket to bat on but I think the Indian spinners will come into play in the latter stages of the Test match,” he added.

Speaking of India and Australia’s last meeting in the longest format, the two teams faced each other last during Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2023 in India, where the hosts emerged victorious by 2-1 with one Test ending in a draw. Virat Kohli (186 runs) registered the highest individual score in the series and was India’s highest run scorer with 297 runs in six innings as well. Meanwhile, Australia’s Usman Khawaja was the overall top-scorer of BGT 2023 with 333 runs in seven innings.
