Australia and India will meet at The Oval in London on June 7 for the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023. The two fierce rivals on the cricketing field will cross swords for what is considered the ultimate prize in the game’s longest format.

Ahead of the eagerly-anticipated WTC 2021-23 Final, Australia batter David Warner opined on having a three-match series instead of a one-off Test to decide the ultimate champion. The southpaw believes that more than one Test is needed to decide the winner for the coveted trophy. The hard work that all Test teams show throughout the cycle of two years deserves a better reward.

“I think it’s great. I have been – I won’t say critical – but I do think it should be at least a three-game series with Test cricket only. You play two years of good cricket, then you play on a neutral venue against an opposition. We’ve all played here before but [this game is] not against the same [host] nation,” Warner told reporters at the training session in Beckenham.

“It’s a great reward for the two best teams. Two world-class bowling attacks bowling with a Dukes ball on foreign land. It’s great and we’re excited for that. We’ve played some outstanding cricket over the last 18-24 months. We know what India will bring to the table. It’s a great neutral venue, two world-class bowling attacks with a Dukes ball and from a batter’s perspective, I can’t wait to get out there,” the veteran Australia opener added.

Australia have begun preparations in full swing as their priorities are set straight with their first focus on clinching the prestigious mace.

Following the conclusion of the WTC Final, the Aussies will turn their attention towards retaining the Ashes against arch-rivals England. The next two months will be crucial for Pat Cummins and his side.

On the other hand, the upcoming final will be India’s second in a row, having played it last time in 2021, only to lose to New Zealand.
