West Indies showcased a dominant batting performance led by Shai Hope and Nicholas Pooran, resulting in a resounding victory over Nepal in the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier on Thursday (June 22).

Hope emerged as the star of the match, displaying exceptional batting prowess by scoring an impressive 132 runs off just 129 deliveries against Nepal. His innings was a delight to watch, featuring 10 fours and 3 sixes, as he took command of the game.

In conjunction with Hope’s brilliance, Pooran also contributed significantly to West Indies’ formidable total. Pooran’s aggressive approach yielded fruitful results as he smashed a splendid century, reaching 115 runs off a mere 94 balls. His innings was marked by a display of power-hitting and precision stroke play.

The West Indies team, donning the Men in Maroon, amassed a colossal total of 339 runs for the loss of 7 wickets within the allocated 50 overs. The 340-run target proved too much for Nepal in the end as they lost the match by a heavy margin of 101 runs.

Furthermore, Hope’s century against Nepal propelled him into an elite group of players. The Barbados-born cricketer has consistently showcased his batting prowess, registering an impressive tally of 37 innings with scores of 50 or more in ODIs, out of which 22 have been centuries.

Beyond his century milestones, Hope accomplished yet another remarkable achievement, placing him alongside legendary names such as MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and other notable players. Hope’s batting average in ODIs has now surged to an impressive 50.26, placing him among the exclusive group of only six players who have maintained a batting average of 50 or more after playing a minimum of 100 innings in ODIs.
