Emerging Women’s Asia Cup 2023: UAE clinch thrilling victory over Malaysia in a rain-affected clash
UAE beat Malaysia in Emerging Women's Asia Cup 2023

In the 6th match of the Emerging Women’s Asia Cup 2023, Malaysia faced off against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in a rain-affected encounter. Led by Chaya Mughal, the UAE team emerged victorious in a thrilling contest.

Due to the rain, the match was shortened to a 5-overs per side affair, putting both teams under pressure to make the most of their limited opportunities. Despite the challenging conditions, Malaysia, who were asked to bat first, managed to post 34 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their allotted 5 overs.

Wicketkeeper-batter Yusrina Yaakop was the leading run-scorer for Malaysia, contributing 9 runs off 5 balls to the team’s total. UAE’s Vaishnave Mahesh proved to be the standout bowler, claiming three wickets while conceding just 10 runs in her 2 overs.

In pursuit of the target, UAE found themselves in a nail-biting finish. The match went down to the wire, with UAE securing victory on the penultimate ball of their innings. Kavisha Egodage and Rinitha Rajith emerged as the top-scorers for UAE, scoring 7 runs each.

Although Malaysia’s Mahirah Izzati Ismail displayed an impressive bowling performance, taking three wickets for 11 runs in her 2 overs, it was not enough to defend the low total and secure a win for her team.

In the end, UAE triumphed over Malaysia by five wickets in a closely contested match. Vaishnave was named the Player of the Match for her outstanding bowling spell, which significantly contributed to UAE’s victory.
