From Joe Root to Ricky Ponting: Fastest batters to 11,000 Test runs by matches

England’s Joe Root etched his name into the history books by becoming the third fastest batter to reach the 11,000-run mark in Tests.

He achieved the feat after hammering his 58th Test fifty against Ireland on June 2, 2023.

Notably, Root is the only English cricketer to feature in the list.

On that note, Here’s the complete list:

1) Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka)

The former Sri Lanka skipper achieved the milestone in the 122nd Test match.

Sangakkara slammed 12400 runs in his Test career, comprising 38 tons.

2) Brian Lara (West Indies)

West Indies legend Brian Lara touched 11,000 run landmark in 121 matches.

Lara retired from the format with 11953 runs and 34 hundreds.

3) Joe Root (England)

Joe Root reached the 11,000-run mark in his 130th Test match.

He slammed 29 centuries in the process.

4) Ricky Ponting (Australia)

Ricky Ponting touched the 11,000 run mark in 132 matches.

He retired from the format with 13378 runs and 41 hundreds.
