The World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23 cycle came to an end on Sunday (June 11), with Australia emerging out to be the ultimate winner of the marquee event. Australia defeated India by 209 runs in the final to lift the coveted Test mace. With the win,  Australia also became the first team to win all major International Cricket Council (ICC) events.

Travis Head was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ for his brilliant century in the first innings of the summit clash. The left-handed batter hammered 163 runs off 174 deliveries and played a significant role in helping his team win the ultimate battle. Apart from Head, Nathan Lyon shined with the ball for the Aussies and claimed four wickets in the fourth innings.

It is noteworthy that the 2021-23 cycle was the second edition of the WTC tournament, and it witnessed many great performances in various departments to become a major success. While England’s Joe Root put up a sensational batting show and topped the highest run-scorer chart of the event with 1915 runs, Lyon finished as the leading wicket-taker with 88 wickets.

Root also was the player to hit the most number of centuries in the second edition of WTC. The former English skipper smashed eight hundreds in the two-year cycle. Meanwhile, Head scored runs at the highest strike rate of 81.91 among batters with at least 500 runs in WTC 2021-23.
