Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have undoubtedly established themselves as one of the most successful teams in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). With five IPL titles and two Champions League T20 trophies, they have enjoyed remarkable success since their debut in 2008, amassing a massive global fanbase in the process.
In recent years, the CSK team owners have taken steps to expand their fanbase beyond the IPL. Starting from 2022, they ventured into different leagues across the world. The franchise made its first investment in the South African T20 (SA20) League, acquiring the Jo’burg Super Kings team. This move allowed CSK to extend its reach and engage with fans in South Africa.
Expanding their horizons further, the CSK owners also made a significant investment in the USA’ T20 league, known as Major League Cricket (MLC). They bought the Texas Super Kings team, which further strengthened their presence in a new cricketing market.
Over the years, CSK has been home to several legendary players who have left an indelible mark on the IPL. Even when some of these players have moved on from the CSK franchise in the IPL, they have maintained their association with the team in various capacities. This not only keeps the connection alive between the players and the CSK brand but also allows fans to witness their favourite players in action wearing the familiar yellow colour.
Here are the three former CSK players to represent the franchise in MLC 2023:
• Faf du Plessis
Faf du Plessis, the talented South African batsman, played a pivotal role in the CSK lineup for several years. As one of the key batters, he made significant contributions to the team’s success. Despite leaving CSK in the IPL, du Plessis has maintained his association with the Super Kings franchise in different leagues. He was firstly appointed as the captain of the Jo’burg in the SA20 and now will lead Texas Super Kings in the MLC.
Having spent a considerable amount of time at CSK, du Plessis has been an integral part of their journey.
