Major League Cricket (MLC) is set to make its grand debut on July 13, 2023, heralding the arrival of USA Cricket onto the global cricket stage. This competition serves as a precursor to the co-hosting of the 2024 T20 World Cup by the United States and the West Indies.
The MLC’s opening clash will feature a face-off between two IPL-based franchises, the Texas Super Kings and the Los Angeles Knight Riders. Joining them in the battle for cricket supremacy are the Seattle Orcas, MI New York, San Francisco Unicorns, and Washington Freedom, forming a dynamic roster of teams.
The San Francisco Unicorns, aiming to make a strong impression in their debut MLC season, have made astute signings in their quest for success. The team has managed to secure the services of renowned Australian cricketers Aaron Finch and Marcus Stoinis as international stars for the tournament.
Finch, the former captain of the Australian cricket team who led them to victory in the T20 World Cup in 2021, will bring leadership experience, and explosive batting prowess to the Unicorns. Joining Finch in donning the iconic unicorn jersey is all-rounder Stoinis, who is known for his hard-hitting batting style and useful medium-pace bowling.
The Unicorns have also bolstered their squad with the inclusion of other prominent international players. Former New Zealand star Corey Anderson, renowned for his explosive batting and handy left-arm pace bowling, will add further depth to the team’s lineup. Additionally, the Unicorns have secured the services of England veteran Liam Plunkett, known for his accurate and wicket-taking fast bowling, providing the team with a balanced and diverse squad. Notably, both Anderson and Plunkett currently play for USA.
