In Match 5 of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2023, Chepauk Super Gillies emerged victorious by 7 wickets against IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans at the SNR College Cricket Ground on Thursday.
After winning the toss, IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans elected to bat first. However, their innings got off to a shaky start as they struggled to build momentum. Tushar Raheja and NS Chaturved fell early, contributing only 2 and 8 runs respectively. K Vishal Vaidhya also failed to make a significant impact, scoring 7 runs.
S Radhakrishnan showed some resistance with a well-constructed 36 off 33 deliveries, including 2 fours and 1 six. Vijay Shankar (28 runs off 28 balls) and Rajendran Vivek (26 runs off 18 balls) played crucial innings to push the total to 120/7 in their allotted 20 overs.
The Chepauk Super Gillies bowlers put up an impressive performance, with S Harish Kumar and Rahil Shah both taking 2 wickets each, restricting the Tamizhans’ scoring opportunities.
In response, Chepauk Super Gillies started their chase confidently. Pradosh Ranjan Paul (25 runs off 25 balls) and Narayan Jagadeesan (13 runs off 9 balls) provided a steady start. However, it was Baba Aparajith who stole the show with an impressive knock of 46 runs off just 29 deliveries, including 4 fours and 3 sixes.
He played a crucial role in guiding his team towards victory. Sanjay Yadav also contributed with a quickfire 22 off 18 balls, further consolidating the Gillies’ position. In the end, Kumar (12 runs off 13 balls) calmly finished the game, leading his team to a comfortable win.
IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans’ bowlers struggled to contain the Gillies’ batters. S Ajith Ram was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2 wickets and conceding 15 runs in his 4 overs. However, their efforts were not enough to prevent Chepauk Super Gillies from reaching the target with 4.2 overs to spare.
