Women’s Ashes: Twitter erupts as Tammy Beaumont smashes England’s highest-ever individual score in Test cricket
Tammy Beaumont

Tammy Beaumont, the talented England women’s cricket team opener, etched her name in the record books by smashing the highest-ever individual score for her country in Test cricket. She achieved the feat in the one-off Women’s Ashes Test, being played at the Trent Bridge, Nottingham.

Beaumont’s remarkable knock of 208 not only surpassed Betty Snowball’s record of 189 set in 1935 but also made her the first Englishwoman to achieve a double century in the longest format of the game.

Beaumont’s magnificent innings ranks as the fifth-highest individual score in the history of women’s Test cricket. The current record holder is Kiran Baluch of Pakistan, who scored an impressive 242 against the West Indies in 2004. Although she fell just five runs short of Ellyse Perry’s Ashes record score of 213 not out in 2017, which occupies the fourth spot on the all-time list, Beaumont’s achievement remains an outstanding feat.

The England opener’s innings against Australia was not only noteworthy for its individual milestones but also for its historical significance. Beaumont’s double century became the highest score ever recorded against Australia, surpassing Rachael Heyhoe Flint’s 179 in 1976. It also marked the first time a player has reached the double hundred mark against the perennial world number one team.

During her record-breaking innings, Beaumont showcased her impeccable timing and shot selection, hitting a staggering 26 fours, the most by any England player in a Test innings. Her ability to find the boundaries with such precision and frequency demonstrated her dominance and class at the crease.

Moreover, Beaumont’s accomplishment extends beyond Test cricket. With her century in this match, she becomes only the fourth England player (including male cricketers) to score centuries in all three formats, joining the esteemed company of Heather Knight, Jos Buttler and Dawid Malan. This achievement further solidifies Beaumont’s position as one of the most accomplished cricketers in the English setup.
