On Sunday (June 11, 2023), Australia created history by becoming the first men’s team in international cricket to win an ICC world title in all three formats. Their remarkable achievement came after they demolished India in the final of the World Test Championship 2021-23 at The Oval, claiming the prestigious title in the longest format.

In the inaugural cycle of the World Test Championship in 2019-21, Australia narrowly missed qualifying for the final. However, they secured their place in the second edition by finishing at the top of the table, ahead of India.

Although Australia had suffered a 2-1 defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) earlier this year in India, they displayed a dominant performance in the final at The Oval, defeating India by a convincing margin of 209 runs. Led by Pat Cummins, Australia showcased their prowess over the course of the five-day contest in London.

Australia’s success extends beyond the Test format. They clinched their first-ever 50-over World Cup title in 1987 and went on to win the tournament four more times, establishing themselves as the most successful team in the history of the 50-over World Cup.

Additionally, Australia triumphed in the ICC Champions Trophy in 2006, emerging victorious in the final against the West Indies.

While Australia had faced challenges in the T20 format, their long-awaited breakthrough came in 2021 when they defied expectations and clinched the T20 World Cup. Under the leadership of Aaron Finch, Australia surprised many by ending their lean patch in the shortest format of the game.
