The fifth and final Ashes 2023 Test went underway at the Kennington Oval on Thursday (July 27), with Australia dominating the opening day and bundling out England for 283. The exceptional bowling performance by the Aussie side was well complemented by their top-order batters as they helped Australia finish the day at 61/1. Although the day ended for the hosts on a positive note, what followed didn’t go down well with many cricket enthusiasts and Australian fans.

Soon after the stumps were called on Day 1 at the Oval, Australia’s legendary batter turned cricket expert Ricky Ponting was subjected to an unruly act of grape pelting by the English fans that left the former Aussie batter fuming. Ponting even was heard reacting to the unjust behaviour in a strong manner and vowing to find out the person who committed the act.

Ricky Ponting’s reaction to grape pelting:

The unfortunate incident involving Ponting took place when the World Cup winner was performing his duty and assessing the day’s play as an analyst for Sky Sports. It was at this moment that someone from the stands threw grapes at him. Furious after being hit and interrupted by the English spectators, the 48-year-old glared at the stands and said: “I’ve just been hit by a grape. I wouldn’t mind finding out who that was actually.”
