Netherlands emerged victorious against Scotland in a thrilling encounter of the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers 2023 Super Sixes round at Queens Sports Club. With the win, the Netherlands became the second team after Sri Lanka to qualify for Cricket World Cup in India later this year.

Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, Netherlands put up a fantastic display of cricket to restrict Scotland to 277 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their allotted 50 overs.

Scotland’s innings were anchored by Brandon McMullen, who played a superb knock of 106 runs off 110 deliveries, including eleven boundaries and three sixes. Richie Berrington also contributed significantly with 64 runs off 84 balls. Tomas Mackintosh (38) and Christopher McBride (32) made valuable contributions as well. Bas de Leede was the pick of the Netherlands bowlers, claiming an impressive five-wicket haul, while Ryan Klein chipped in with two wickets.

Chasing a target of 278 runs, Netherlands displayed a composed batting performance and reached the required total with 7.1 overs to spare. De Leede played a magnificent innings, scoring a brilliant century off just 92 deliveries. His knock included seven fours and five sixes, providing the backbone of the Netherlands’ successful chase. Vikramjit Singh (40) and Saqib Zulfiqar (33) also made notable contributions with the bat.

Scotland’s bowlers put in a spirited effort but couldn’t do enough to defend the total. Michael Leask and McMullen claimed a wicket each, while Mark Watt and Chris Greaves also made breakthroughs. However, the Netherlands held their nerves and secured a crucial victory.

De Leede was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ for his sensational all-round show in the contest.
