The power-packed Major League Cricket (MLC) 2023 concluded on July 31, with MI New York (MINY) emerging as champion of the inaugural season. The New York-based team performed brilliantly throughout the tournament and defeated the eventual runner-ups, Seattle Orcas, in the summit clash to clinch the coveted trophy.
The much-anticipated final of the maiden tournament saw SEO setting up a challenging target of 183/9 in their 20 overs after being asked to bat first by MINY. Quinton de Kock was the star of the innings for the Seattle-based side, smashing 87 runs off just 52 deliveries. Shubham Ranjane‘s quick 29 off 16 balls and Dwaine Pretorius‘ explosive 21 off 7 balls further bolstered their total. Trent Boult and Rashid Khan were the standout bowlers for MINY, each claiming three wickets to contain the Orcas’ batters.
In reply, MINY showed their mettle and demonstrated remarkable batting prowess. Nicholas Pooran played an extraordinary knock, scoring a breathtaking 137 runs off only 55 balls, comprising ten fours and a staggering thirteen sixes. His sensational batting single-handedly steered New York to a convincing victory. They reached the target in just 16 overs. Pooran was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ for his sensational knock.
The 27-year-old also finished as the leading run-scorer of MLC 2023. He even achieved many other milestones in the inaugural event.
