Ireland Cricket have revealed their 14-player Women’s squad that will be competing in the highly anticipated One-Day International (ODI) series against reigning world champions Australia. The squad announcement brings exciting news, as Jane Maguire makes a comeback to senior action after recovering from injury. Notably, Jane will be joining her younger sister Aimee in the squad, marking a historic moment for the siblings.

The much-anticipated series is scheduled to kick off on July 23rd and will conclude on July 28th, with matches taking place in Dublin. Laura Delany, a skilled all-rounder, will continue to lead the Irish side, providing her experience and leadership to guide the team through the tough encounters ahead.

In addition to the Maguire sisters, the squad includes talented players such as Ava Canning, Georgina Dempsey, Amy Hunter, Arlene Kelly, Gaby Lewis, and Louise Little, among others. These players are eager to showcase their skills and contribute to Ireland’s success against the formidable Australian team.

Expressing her enthusiasm for the upcoming series, Hunter, the Irish wicketkeeper-batter, highlighted the challenges that lie ahead. Reflecting on their recent tour to the Caribbean, Hunter acknowledged the team’s moments of promise but emphasized the importance of delivering complete performances to compete against the world’s top sides.

“It’s a hugely exciting summer of international cricket – we’ve just returned from a tour to the Caribbean, and now have a home series against Australia and then the Netherlands away. We were disappointed not to get at least one win against the West Indies, but we had our moments. Moments, though, aren’t enough to beat the best sides, we’ll need to be switched on from ball one against Australia and put complete performances together – with bat, ball, and in the field. This series against the Aussies is our only action at home this summer, which I’m looking forward to,” said Hunter in an official statement.

Ireland Women’s squad for Australia ODIs: Laura Delany (captain), Ava Canning, Georgina Dempsey, Amy Hunter, Arlene Kelly, Gaby Lewis, Louise Little, Jane Maguire, Aimee Maguire, Cara Murray, Leah Paul, Orla Prendergast, Rebecca Stokell, Mary Waldron.
