Australia’s women’s cricket team received a setback ahead of the third and final ODI against Ireland Women as both their captain, Alyssa Healy, and star all-rounder, Ellyse Perry, were ruled out of the last match of the Ireland tour. The news was confirmed by the Cricket Australia just a few minutes ahead of the match.

Healy’s Fresh Injury and Perry’s Knee Trouble:

During the second ODI against Ireland Women at Clontarf Cricket Club on Tuesday, Healy suffered a fresh fracture to her already-broken left index finger while she was keeping wickets. This unfortunate injury has forced her to miss the crucial last game of the Ireland tour.

Adding to Australia’s woes, Perry, who has been in sensational form, scoring three consecutive ODI fifties, faced soreness in her left knee during her brilliant innings of 91 runs. As a precautionary measure, she did not take the field during the second innings and further medical examination revealed that Perry requires a period of rest for 4-6 weeks to recuperate from the injury.

Tahlia McGrath named Australia’s 18th ODI skipper:

In the absence of Healy and Perry, Tahlia McGrath was handed over the captaincy role for the third ODI against Ireland Women. McGrath, a talented all-rounder, will lead the team for the first time in her career and will look to guide the side to a successful finish in the tour.

Historic Absence from Playing XI:

The absence of both Healy and Perry from the playing XI marks a historic moment for the Australian women’s cricket team. This is the first time since February 2013 that the Australian side are fielding without either of the star cricketers in their lineup. The two players have been integral to the team’s success over the years, and their absence will be felt in this crucial encounter.

Return to Australia for Rehabilitation:

With their injuries necessitating proper care and rehabilitation, both Healy and Perry will return to Australia to undergo the necessary medical treatment. The team management will closely monitor their recovery and progress to ensure their swift and safe return to the field.
