In a thrilling encounter at Harare Sports Club, former Indian all-rounder Yusuf Pathan showcased a brilliant display of aggressive batting, guiding the Joburg Buffaloes (JBL) to a stunning six-wicket victory over the Durban Qalandars (DB) at Zim Afro T10 2023 Qualifier 1 on Friday.
During the chase of 142 runs, Pathan delivered an extraordinary performance, smashing an unbeaten 80 runs off 26 balls at an astounding strike rate of 307.69. His knock included nine sixes and four fours, showcasing Pathan’s aggressive and powerful batting skills. The 40-year-old exceptional display single-handedly propelled the Buffaloes into the tournament final.
Yusuf’s spectacular assault against Mohammad Amir
Yusuf’s remarkable innings featured a defining moment during the eighth over when he launched a relentless attack against bowler Mohammad Amir. Pathan began the proceedings with a powerful six over cover, followed it by another maximum over long-on. Although the third delivery didn’t yield any runs, Pathan responded by dispatching the fourth ball over square leg for another six.
This over turned out to be disastrous for Amir as he conceded a staggering 25 runs. The left-arm pacer bowled an expensive two-over spell, conceding 42 runs without a wicket.

Earlier, the Qalandars posted an impressive total of 140 runs, courtesy of commendable performances from their batters. Andres Fletcher played a blazing knock, scoring 39 runs off just 14 balls. Asif Ali also contributed significantly with 32 runs off 12 balls, while George Linde added quick runs with 24 off 9 balls.
As a result of their triumph, the Buffaloes have advanced to the finals and will face the Qalandars again in the summit clash who defeated Harare Hurricanes (HH) by four wickets in the Qualifier 2. The final fixture is scheduled to take place on July 29. With Pathan’s exceptional form, the Buffaloes will be hoping to carry on the momentum and clinch the championship title.
