Team India put on a dominant display against Bangladesh in the 2nd Women’s ODI of the ICC Championship match held at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Wednesday. Opting to bat first after winning the toss, the visitors posted a competitive total of 228 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their allotted 50 overs.
Smriti Mandhana provided a solid start, contributing 36 runs off 58 deliveries with 4 fours. However, it was the partnership between skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues that set the stage for a challenging total.
Harmanpreet scored a patient 52 off 88 balls, while Rodrigues displayed an impressive batting performance, smashing 86 runs off just 78 deliveries with 9 fours to her name. Harleen Deol and the rest of the lower order added valuable runs to push the score beyond 200. For Bangladesh, the likes of Marufa Akter, Sultana Khatun, Nahida Akter, and Rabeya Khan picked up crucial wickets, but they couldn’t prevent India from setting a substantial target.
Chasing a target of 229 runs, the hosts struggled to build partnerships and were eventually bundled out for 120 runs in 35.1 overs, conceding a defeat by 108 runs. Fargana Hoque fought hard and top-scored for Bangladesh with 47 runs off 81 deliveries, displaying determination at the crease. Ritu Moni provided some resistance, contributing 27 runs. However, the rest of the batting order failed to make significant contributions.
The Indian bowling attack proved to be too strong for the Bangladesh’s lineup. Rodrigues, who shined with the bat, surprised everyone with her bowling skills, claiming an exceptional 4 wickets for just 3 runs in 3.1 overs. Devika Vaidya was the pick of the Indian bowlers, finishing with figures of 3 wickets for 30 runs in her 8 overs. In the end, it was a convincing victory for India Women, who displayed a dominant all-round performance with both bat and ball.
