Texas Super Kings (TSK) emerged victorious against MI New York (MINY) by 17 runs in the 7th match of the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2023 tournament at the Grand Prairie Stadium on Monday night. The Texas captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and elected to bat first.
TSK got off to a solid start with opener Devon Conway leading the charge. Conway played a brilliant knock, scoring 74 runs off 55 deliveries, including 8 fours and 1 six. However, apart from Conway, the rest of the batting lineup struggled to find their rhythm. Du Plessis could score just 8 runs, while Cody Chetty and David Miller got out after adding 12 and 17 runs respectively. The late surge came from Mitchell Santner, who smashed 27 runs off just 13 balls, including 1 four and 2 sixes. The Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) sister franchise posted a total of 154 runs on the board for the loss of 7 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
MINY’s bowling effort was led by Trent Boult and Kagiso Rabada, who picked up 2 wickets each. Boult conceded 29 runs in his 4 overs, while Rabada gave away 30 runs in his spell. Kieron Pollard and Rashid Khan also chipped in with a wicket each. But, they couldn’t completely restrict the Super Kings’ batting lineup, allowing them to set a competitive target.
Chasing 155 for victory, the New York side struggled to build partnerships and lost wickets at regular intervals. Shayan Jahangir was the top scorer with 41 runs off 38 balls, including 5 fours. Nicholas Pooran and Tim David made valuable contributions of 19 and 24 runs respectively, but it wasn’t enough to take their team over the line. The Super Kings’ bowlers put up a disciplined performance, with Daniel Sams and Mohammad Mohsin claiming 2 wickets each. Rusty Theron, Zia-ul-Haq and Dwayne Bravo also grabbed a wicket each. MINY were restricted to 137/8 and TSK registered their second win in the tournament.

Conway’s outstanding performance with the bat earned him the well-deserved ‘Player of the Match’ award. His knock provided the much-needed impetus to the Super Kings’ total.
With this victory, the Super Kings returned to the winning ways. Meanwhile, MINY have to regroup and bounce back in their remaining fixtures.
