In an electrifying display of fast bowling, Wayne Parnell, the captain of Seattle Orcas, wreaked havoc by securing a remarkable 5-wicket haul in the 10th match of the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2023. Facing off against the Texas Super Kings at Church Street Park in Morrisville on Friday, the Orcas emerged victorious with a dominant performance, first bundling out Texas for a mere 127 runs and then chasing down the target in just 16 overs with 8 wickets in hand.

Parnell’s devastating bowling performance earned him the well-deserved Player of the Match award, as he consistently troubled the Texas batters, conceding a mere 20 runs in his four-over spell, which also marked the first five-wicket haul of the tournament, showcasing Parnell’s prowess as a bowler.

The defining moment of Parnell’s brilliance came in the 8th over of Texas’ innings when he struck twice, removing two key batters in a single over. With a classic left-arm delivery, Parnell shattered the stumps of the dangerous David Miller on the very first ball of the over. Using his experience and skills, Parnell executed a well-disguised cutter that deceived Miller and sent his off-stump cartwheeling.

Shortly after, Milind Kumar attempted an ambitious shot, trying to clear the square leg boundary off a short delivery from Parnell. However, the timing was amiss, and the ball nestled safely into the hands of a well-positioned fielder.

Parnell’s fiery display left the Super Kings reeling, restricting them to a meager total of 127 runs in their allotted 20 overs. Dwayne Bravo was the lone fighter for Texas, managing to score 39 runs before becoming Parnell’s victim as well.

With a modest target in front of them, the Seattle batters showed no mercy. Opener Quinton de Kock was on a rampage, hammering a blistering fifty off just 36 balls, including three fours and an equal number of sixes. De Kock’s aggressive batting set the tone for the Orcas’ chase. Heinrich Klaasen remained steady and unbeaten at 42, guiding Seattle to a comfortable victory with 8 wickets in hand and 4 overs to spare.
