The star-studded lineup of pre-signed players for the second season of SA20 was recently announced and has generated a huge buzz of excitement among cricket enthusiasts. As the six franchises gear up to build their squads for the upcoming season, they decided to go with a few strategic moves and high-profile signings that added fuel to the excitement surrounding the second edition of this thrilling cricket league set to take place in January next year.

Speaking of the pre-signings, defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape have made a significant statement by securing the services of star England batter Dawid Malan. Joining him is his fellow English teammate, left-arm spinner Liam Dawson. Sunrisers Eastern Cape have also decided to retain the services of their captain, Aiden Markram, and the talented seam bowler, Ottniel Baartman.

On the other hand, MI Cape Town have made strategic moves to strengthen their squad. They have retained their influential skipper, Rashid Khan, along with the dynamic trio of Kagiso Rabada, Dewald Brevis, and Sam Curran. Additionally, MI Cape Town has managed to secure the explosive English duo of Liam Livingstone and Tom Banton, adding further firepower to their batting lineup. It’s worth noting that Livingstone missed the entirety of the previous season due to an injury.

Last season’s semifinalists, Joburg Super Kings, have also made their intentions clear by retaining their highest run-scorer, Faf du Plessis. Spearheading their bowling attack will be the talented young gun Gerald Coetzee. The Joburg franchise has further strengthened their squad with the pre-signing of two experienced all-rounders, England’s Moeen Ali and Namibia’s David Wiese, as well as Afghanistan’s left-arm wrist spinner Zahir Khan. Adding to the excitement, Sam Cook, who was named The Hundred’s Player of the Final last season, will join their ranks as well.

Durban’s Super Giants, known for their explosive style of play, have managed to retain their dynamic opening duo of Quinton de Kock and West Indian sensation Kyle Mayers. The team will now have the support of the powerful Sri Lankan top-order batter, Bhanuka Rajapaksa. In the bowling department, the acquisition of Afghanistan’s fast bowler, Naveen ul Haq, and the retention of England’s Reece Topley and spinner Prenelan Subrayen, further strengthens the Super Giants’ formidable lineup.

The Paarl Royals have decided to maintain their core group of players, including their star skipper, David Miller. Joining him will be Corbin Bosch, England captain Jos Buttler, and the West Indian left-arm swing bowler Obed McCoy.

Lastly, the runners-up of the previous season, the Pretoria Capitals, have opted to retain the services of Proteas fast bowler Anrich Nortje, New Zealand all-rounder Jimmy Neesham and Migael Pretorius.
