The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 was a memorable season for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as they clinched their fifth IPL title, equaling the record previously held by the Mumbai Indians (MI). Under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, CSK had a successful campaign and opening batter Devon Conway played a crucial role in their success.
Conway showcased remarkable consistency throughout the season, accumulating 672 runs in 15 innings at an impressive average of 51.69. He scored six half-centuries, with his highest score being an unbeaten 92. Interestingly, when the 32-year-old selected his all-time CSK XI, he excluded himself from the lineup.
In Conway’s chosen XI, Ruturaj Gaikwad was named as the opener alongside current Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Faf du Plessis, who earlier played for the Chennai franchise from 2011 to 2021. While Du Plessis had an outstanding individual season in 2023, RCB failed to qualify for the playoffs, making it another disappointing campaign for them. Suresh Raina, also known as Mr. IPL, completed the top order.
Ambati Rayudu was selected for the fourth position, followed by Ben Stokes. While Stokes didn’t showcase his best performances for CSK in 2023 season, Conway still gave preference to England’s red-ball skipper in his side.
The team also include two spin-bowling allrounders, Moeen Ali and Ravindra Jadeja. Dhoni, the captain and wicketkeeper, was placed at number 8. Among the pacers, Conway chose Albie Morkel as the leader of his attack, supported by current star Deepak Chahar and former CSK bowling coach Lakshmipathy Balaji.

Notably, Conway’s next assignment will be with the Texas Super Kings (TSK) in the inaugural edition of the 2023 Major League Cricket (MLC). TSK, co-owned by CSK, will feature players like Mitchell Santner and Du Plessis among others. The MLC will be held across two venues in the United States of America (USA) from July 13 to July 30.
