The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is gearing up for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 mini-auction, which is reportedly scheduled to take place in late December. In an exciting development, the BCCI has increased the purse amount for each franchise to a staggering ₹100 crore.

The final date and venue for the mini-auction will be announced after the conclusion of the ODI World Cup 2023, which will be hosted in India. Currently, several cities are vying to become the host for the 2024 IPL auction. Mumbai, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Kochi and Kolkata are the frontrunners, and the decision will be made based on various factors.

One major change in the upcoming mini-auction is the removal of the limit on player retention for teams. Unlike previous seasons, franchises will have the liberty to retain as many players as they desire, adding to the excitement and unpredictability of the bidding process.

“The focus is now on the World Cup, and once every detail is taken care of, we will move towards IPL. We will decide the date after the World Cup. It is most likely in the third or fourth week of December. But it will only be discussed at the IPL GC meeting later on,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying to Insider Sport.

The official also confirmed that the auction would not be held on Christmas Eve, as the organizers aim to find a comfortable date that suits all stakeholders.

As the preparations for the upcoming event are well underway, all ten IPL franchises are diligently planning their strategies. Teams like Delhi Capitals (DC) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have already made changes to their coaching staff, while others, including Rajasthan Royals (RR), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), are on the lookout for new batting, bowling and fielding coaches.
