The first ODI of the three-match series between West Indies and India took place at Kensington Oval in Barbados on Thursday (July 27). The Men in Blue displayed a clinical performance against the hosts and emerged victorious in the contest by five wickets.

West Indies Innings:

Asked to bat first, the Men in Maroon struggled to find momentum throughout their innings and managed to score only 114 runs before being bowled out in 23 overs. Shai Hope was the top scorer for West Indies. The Caribbean skipper contributed with a well-constructed 43 runs off 45 balls to the team’s total. Meanwhile, Alick Athanaze (22) also added some quick runs. However, the rest of the batting lineup failed to make an impact, with none of the other batters reaching double digits.

On the other hand, the Indian bowlers put up an impressive performance, with Kuldeep Yadav being the standout performer and claiming four wickets for just six runs in the three overs he bowled. Ravindra Jadeja chipped in with three crucial scalps as well.

India Innings:

In reply to the below-par total of West Indies, India faced a minor hiccup, but they ultimately reached the target with ease in 22.4 overs for the loss of five wickets. Ishan Kishan was the star of the Indian innings, scoring a brilliant half-century with 52 runs off 46 balls. The left-handed batter hammered seven fours and one six during his innings. Suryakumar Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja also contributed with 19 and 16 runs respectively.

Although West Indies bowlers did manage to put up a fight, with Gudakesh Motie being the pick of the bowlers and taking two wickets for 22 runs in his 6.4 overs, India won the match by five wickets and secured a comfortable victory.

Kuldeep Yadav won the well-deserved ‘Player of the Match’ award for his brilliant spell.
