The encounter between Worcestershire and Yorkshire in the County Division Two witnessed a bizarre and chaotic incident taking place on Day 4, leaving many in amazement and laughter.
Asked to bat first, Yorkshire ended their innings on a mammoth score of 407 runs. Finlay Bean slammed a brilliant ton for his side and scored impressive 135 runs comprising seventeen boundaries and two sixes. Finlay was well supported by Adam Lyth (79). Geroge Hill chipped in with valuable 53 runs as well. Among Worcestershire bowlers, Adam Finch claimed a sensational fifer for his team.
In reply, Worcestershire batters struggled to get going, and their team eventually was forced to follow on by the Yorkshire. Although Ben Gibbon (41) and Adam Hose stood firm for their team, Worcestershire were eventually bowled out on 242.
Resuming their innings after a follow-on, Worcestershire lost their first wicket quite early and in a bizarre fashion. The dismissal came off a chaotic run-out after a mix-up between Gibbon and Finch.
It all happened when Gibbon defended a ball from Matthew Fisher, and it went towards Mark Steketee at short mid-wicket after finding an inside edge of his bat. Finch saw it as an opportunity to take a single and charged towards the batting end. Gibbon also seemed interested initially until he sent back Finch from halfway down the crease. Finch turned around quickly and slipped in haste after the mix-up. Nevertheless, Steketee missed the direct hit.
James Wharton, the fielder backing up the ball, then showed some football skills to deflect the red-leather towards the stump, but he missed the target as well. By the time all this happened, Finch was up on his feet and charged back towards the non-striker end with full power. However, in the meantime, Fisher somehow got hold of the ball, dislodged the bails, and caught Finch short of the crease. The video of the chaotic and comical incident soon went viral on the internet.
