The Global T20 Canada 2023 tournament began with great excitement on Thursday as Brampton Wolves clashed with Mississauga Panthers at the CAA Centre in Brampton. While the match had its fair share of intense cricketing moments, it was a humorous incident involving the legendary ‘Universe Boss,’ Chris Gayle, that stole the spotlight.
During Brampton Wolves’ chase, Gayle found himself in an amusing predicament while attempting to field a ball in the sixth over bowled by Usman Qadir. Mark Chapman, the batter facing Qadir’s delivery, deftly guided the ball towards short third man, where Gayle was stationed.
The veteran Jamaican cricketer, known for his explosive batting and entertaining on-field persona, misjudged the ball’s speed and made an unfortunate misstep in his attempt to stop it. The ball sneakily rolled behind him as he turned around, and to the amusement of the crowd and players alike, Gayle comically lost his footing and fell to the ground while the ball crossed the boundary line. The hilarious incident was captured on camera and quickly went viral, with cricket fans and enthusiasts sharing the video on various social media platforms.

Despite the comical mishap, the match continued with intense competition. The decision to bowl first of Brampton Wolves proved fruitful as they managed to dismiss Mississauga Panthers for a total of 121 runs. Azam Khan stood out as the top performer for Panthers, scoring an impressive 65 off 55 deliveries, including 5 fours and 3 sixes.
Unfortunately, Gayle’s batting display didn’t match his legendary status, as he could only muster a modest 10 runs from 11 deliveries. Nonetheless, his team, Brampton Wolves, demonstrated their dominance in the chase, reaching 99/1 in nine overs before rain interrupted the play. Ultimately, they secured a convincing 52-run victory over Mississauga Panthers through the DLS method.
