The 7th match of the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2023 witnessed an unusual dismissal involving Texas Super Kings‘ captain Faf du Plessis during their encounter with MI New York at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas on Monday.
During the Super Kings’ innings, the incident unfolded in the 3rd over when Kagiso Rabada delivered a full toss at 136.8 kmph directed towards the stumps. Du Plessis attempted a scoop shot after shuffling across and getting low, but to everyone’s surprise, he completely missed the ball, leading to the white leather making a mess of the stumps.

Devon Conway, Daniel Sams shine in Texas’ win over New York
Speaking about the game, Texas won the toss and elected to bat first against New York. Opener Devon Conway showcased his batting prowess, delivering a stellar performance with a splendid knock of 74 runs. His innings consisted of 8 fours and a six, propelling Texas to a competitive total of 154/7 in their allotted 20 overs.
In response, New York struggled to establish partnerships and lost wickets at regular intervals. Their innings concluded at 137/8, falling short of the target by 17 runs. Shayan Jahangir was the highest run-scorer for New York, contributing 41 runs off 38 deliveries.
Texas’ victory was largely attributed to the exceptional bowling efforts of Daniel Sams. The left-arm bowler stood out with his remarkable figures of 2 wickets for just 15 runs in his allocated 4 overs. Additionally, Mohammad Mohsin also impressed, claiming two wickets for the Super Kings.
“If you look at the power they have in the middle, the strongest hitters in the game – the composure we showed there. It’s a great game and thanks to the crowd. Hopefully we get the same following next game,” said Du Plessis after the match.
