Faf du Plessis took a remarkable catch that left spectators in awe during the match between Texas Super Kings (TSK) and MI New York (MINY) at the Major League Cricket (MLC) tournament.
The catch was taken when MINY’s batter Tim David mistimed a full slower delivery outside off from Daniel Sams in the last over of the second innings.
David wanted to send the ball out of the park as his team needed 21 runs to win off the final over. However, the Texas skipper Du Plessis, fielding at long-on, displayed exceptional athleticism and anticipation. He sprinted towards his left, covering a considerable distance, and then launched himself into the air with a full-stretch dive. Just as it seemed the ball would fall in the no man’s land, du Plessis extended his hands, fully outstretched, and plucked the ball out of thin air.
The crowd erupted in applause and cheers as du Plessis completed the stunning catch, leaving even his teammates in awe of his brilliance on the field. It was a moment of sheer brilliance and displayed the athleticism and fielding prowess for which du Plessis is renowned.
This catch by Du Plessis will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the highlights of the match and adds to his ever-growing reputation as one of the finest fielders in the game.
With that remarkable effort, MINY’s hopes of winning the game were dashed as TSK secured a 17-run victory, propelling them to the top of the points table with four points from three matches.
Opting to bat after winning the toss, Du Plessis had a disappointing outing with the bat, but his team managed a decent score of 154/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Devon Conway, the New Zealand star batter, played a brilliant knock, scoring an impressive 74 runs off 55 deliveries.
In their chase, MINY struggled to find their rhythm and could only reach 137/8, falling short of the target.
