India started their West Indies tour in a great fashion by registering a dominating win over the Caribbean team in the first Test of the two match-series. The Rohit Sharma-led side thrashed the hosts by an innings and 141 runs in the Dominica Test.
Although the match turned out to be one-sided, it did witness some eye-catching events that became major talking points on the internet, such as Shubman Gill dancing in the middle of the outfield, Virat Kohli celebrating his first boundary in an animated fashion and much more. Among all, debutant Ishan Kishan attempting an Alex Carey-like stumping on Day 3 of the match also garnered huge attention from cricket enthusiasts.
Notably, the ongoing Ashes series between England and Australia landed up in huge controversy a few weeks back. The controversy erupted after English batter Jonny Bairstow was dismissed in a bizarre fashion by Aussie wicketkeeper Carey at the Lord’s Cricket Ground.
It all happened when Bairstow ducked a bouncer from Cameron Green and left the crease, assuming that the over had concluded. However, Carey saw it as an opportunity and initiated an underarm throw to dislodge the bails, sending Bairstow back to the pavilion. The event sparked a huge debate on the legitimacy of the stumping and ‘Spirit of Cricket’, with fans and experts divided on the issue.
Kishan made a similar attempt on Jason Holder during the first Test between India and West Indies at Dominica, where he cunningly waited for the Caribbean batter to raise his left leg before whipping the bails off. The Indian wicketkeeper then made a loud appeal to the square leg umpire, but the match official dismissed the call as the over’s conclusion was already signalled before the stumping.
