India’s star middle-order batter Ajinkya Rahane has been in the spotlight for so many reasons in the past few months. The Mumbai cricketer had a sensational outing for the eventual champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 and was unsurprisingly recalled into the India Test team for the World Test Championship Final (WTC) 2023 following his exploit.
Rahane didn’t disappoint the selectors in the summit clash of the WTC and emerged as the top scorer for the Indian side. Although India couldn’t win the championship, Rahane was soon appointed the team’s vice-captain for the two Tests against West Indies commencing from July 12. The comeback of the right-handed batter in the red-ball set-up was nothing short of a dream for him and became a major point of discussion among cricket enthusiasts, who termed it magical and phenomenal.
Currently practising with Team India in West Indies, Rahane was recently asked about his comeback at the age of 35 in a press conference ahead of the first Test in Dominica. Rahane didn’t seem to like the question but gave a witty response to the interviewer that even left Indian skipper Rohit Sharma in laughter.
“Is age mein matlab? Main abhi bhi young hoon yaar (At this age means? I am still young). There is still a lot of cricket left in me. Definitely, the IPL season was pretty good and I had a very good domestic season as well,” said Rahane.
Rahane further also talked about his form and fitness and reckoned that every Test is important for the team. He even expressed his happiness over stepping back into the vice-captain’s role. The video of the same was shared by the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) on their official Twitter handle.
