Women’s Ashes 2023: Alice Capsey’s heroics lead England to series-clinching win over Australia in 3rd T20I
England beat Australia in 3rd T20I to clinch the series

In a rain-affected clash of the Women’s Ashes 2023, England clinched the series with a thrilling 5-wicket victory over Australia in the 3rd T20I at Lord’s. Alice Capsey‘s scintillating performance played a pivotal role in England’s triumph.

Opting to bat first, Australia set a challenging target of 155 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Beth Mooney and Ashleigh Gardner both contributed 32 runs, while Ellyse Perry‘s quickfire 34 off 25 balls propelled Australia’s innings.

England’s bowlers put up an impressive display, with Natalie Sciver leading the attack with 2 crucial wickets. Charlie Dean, Lauren Bell, and Danielle Gibson also made valuable contributions, taking a wicket each. Despite Australia’s strong total, England’s bowling effort restricted them to a manageable score.

Unfortunately, rain interrupted play during the innings break, and England’s chase was revised to 14 overs with a DLS target of 119 runs. Danielle Wyatt provided a rapid start during the powerplay, playing a flurry of boundaries to give England early momentum. However, it was Capsey’s remarkable knock of 46 runs off just 23 deliveries that stole the show.

Capsey’s innings, including 4 boundaries and 2 sixes, proved to be the turning point in England’s successful run chase. Alongside Wyatt (26 runs) and Sciver (25 runs), Capsey guided England to a thrilling victory with 3 balls to spare.

Australia’s bowlers fought valiantly, but were unable to defend their total against the determined English batting lineup. Megan Schutt was the standout performer, claiming 2 wickets, while Darcie Brown, Jess Jonassen, and Georgia Wareham managed to pick up a wicket each.

Capsey’s exceptional performance with the bat earned her the well-deserved “Player of the Match” award, highlighting her crucial role in guiding England to victory and sealing the series.
