New Zealand Cricket (NZC) have unveiled their men’s squad for the eagerly anticipated New Zealand A team’s upcoming tour of Australia. The tour, which is set to kick off with a 4-day game on August 28 at the Allan Border Field, promises to be a thrilling encounter for cricket enthusiasts.

The tour itinerary boasts a comprehensive schedule, including two 4-day fixtures and three One-Day Internationals (ODIs), culminating on September 15. Tom Bruce, a seasoned campaigner, has been entrusted with the captaincy of the New Zealand A squad, which boasts an impressive lineup of international-capped players.

Notably, Ajaz Patel, a prominent name in New Zealand cricket, has been included in the squad. Patel, renowned for his exceptional performance in the Test format, has appeared in 14 Test matches for New Zealand. His remarkable figures of 10-119 against India in 2021, the third-best ever recorded in an innings, have etched his name in cricket history. Patel is set to contribute his prowess to the four-day matches during the tour.

Another seasoned player, Tim Seifert, adds a wealth of experience to the squad. With 49 international appearances for New Zealand, Seifert is among the most experienced players on the roster. His inclusion is anticipated to make a significant impact, especially during the final two one-day fixtures of the tour.

Aspiring leggie Adithya Ashok gets the nod

A notable addition to the squad is Adithya Ashok, a promising young talent in the world of cricket. Popularly known as Adi Ashok, the budding leg spinner has impressed selectors with his performance in the domestic circuit. Ashok’s journey from Vellore, India, to Auckland at the age of four highlights his determination and passion for the sport. His successful debut in the third T20I against UAE, where he secured a wicket for 28 runs in four overs, further solidified his spot in the New Zealand A squad.

Joining Ashok on this exciting journey are Dean Foxcroft, Jacob Duffy, and Scott Kuggeleijn. Their inclusion adds fresh energy and dynamism to the squad, bolstering New Zealand’s chances in the upcoming encounters.
