Southern Brave emerged victorious against Manchester Originals in the 31st match of The Hundred Women’s Competition 2023 at Old Trafford on Wednesday (August 23). Danielle Wyatt shined for Southern Brave in their comprehensive win.

Winning the toss and opting to bowl, Southern Brave set the tone for their win with a strong performance. Manchester Originals struggled to get going and managed to post a total of 118/4. Laura Wolvaardt led the batting charge with a solid 46 runs off 39 balls, supported by Fi Morris, who contributed a well-played half-century off 39 deliveries to the team total.

On the other hand, Southern Brave’s bowlers were brilliant and kept the opposition in check. Anya Shrubsole‘s two wickets for 33 runs and Lauren Bell‘s economical one wicket for 15 runs were standout bowling performances for Southern Brave.

In reply, Southern Brave displayed remarkable batting prowess and chased down the set target with eight wickets and 32 balls to spare. Wyatt’s explosive innings of 60 runs off 32 deliveries, featuring eight fours and one six, was the highlight of the chase. Maia Bouchier also played a crucial supporting role, contributing a quickfire 47 runs off 25 balls.

Manchester Originals’ bowlers struggled to contain Southern Brave’s strong batting lineup. While Kathryn Bryce managed to pick up a wicket, the other bowlers found it challenging to stem the flow of runs.

Wyatt’s outstanding all-round performance earned her the well-deserved ‘Player of the Match’ award, as her explosive batting display set the foundation for Southern Brave’s victory.

It is worth mentioning that Southern Brave have already confirmed their spot in the final of the event. Meanwhile, Northern Superchargers and Welsh Fire will square off against each other in the Eliminator scheduled on August 26 at the Kennington Oval to claim a place in the summit clash.
