In the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) achieved the remarkable feat of winning their fifth title, matching the record held by Mumbai Indians (MI). This turnaround came after a disappointing performance in the previous season. Led by captain MS Dhoni, CSK displayed consistency with both bat and ball, ultimately securing the IPL 2023 title by defeating the then defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in the final.
Shivam Dube played a pivotal role in CSK’s victory. As a designated six-hitter for the team, Dube’s contributions were crucial. He scored 418 runs in 16 games, maintaining an impressive strike rate of 158.33 and registering three half-centuries. The Mumbai-born cricketer’s ability to hit sixes consistently disrupted the opposition’s bowling plans, particularly against spinners. Dube’s contributions were instrumental in elevating CSK’s total score to levels that proved to be competitive and even above-par in matches.

Shivam Dube snubs Deepak Chahar in his all-time CSK XI
Dube recently revealed his choice of the best CSK XI, featuring top players who have represented Chennai Super Kings. The selection video was shared on CSK’s official Instagram handle. In Dube’s XI, Matthew Hayden and Michael Hussey were the chosen openers, followed by Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo and Albie Morkel. The southpaw also picked his preferred bowlers, opting for Lakshmipathi Balaji, Harbhajan Singh and himself as the fourth all-rounder in the star-studded lineup.
Notably, he did not include Deepak Chahar in the final XI, a player with an impressive record for CSK. Chahar quickly responded to Dube’s post on Instagram, generating further engagement and discussion among fans.
“@dubeshivam next year as bowler khelega hum kaha jaege ? (Next year if you compete as a bowler then where will I go?)” The 31-year-old wrote in the comment section of the video featuring Dube.
Chahar didn’t stop there and further wrote: “@dubeshivam sabse pahle next year tere or mera match hoga 1 over ka I will bowl 1 over to you you bowl 1 over to me let’s see who wins and take the spot? (We will play a match of one over each next year, whoever wins, takes the spot).”
Dube responded by leaving one spot in his team vacant.
“@deepak_chahar9 tere liye maine abhise spot chod diya hai, kya tu tabki baat kar raha hai (I have already vacated a spot for you),” the 30-year-old wrote.
However, Chahar came up with yet another hilarious reply.
“@dubeshivam nahi muze match chahea spot nahi (I don’ want a spot, I want a match),” the Agra-born cricketer wrote.
Dube replied once again in a lighter way and ended the banter by accepting the challenge.
@deepak_chahar9 chal jaisa tu bole (Ok as you say)” Dube concluded.
