Curtly Ambrose cautions Jasprit Bumrah
However, amidst the excitement and anticipation, legendary West Indies fast bowler Curtly Ambrose has offered a word of caution to Bumrah as he prepares to step back into the ODI format. Ambrose, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest pacers in cricket history, emphasized the importance of taking things slow and not rushing into the game with full intensity.
Ambrose’s words of wisdom stemmed from his own vast experience and understanding of the challenges that come with making a comeback after a significant injury layoff. He acknowledged Bumrah’s uniqueness as a bowler, emphasizing his unorthodox yet highly effective approach to the game. But at the same time, Ambrose highlighted the concern that often accompanies bowlers returning from injuries and cautioned Bumrah.
“Bumrah is an asset to the Indian bowling line-up and my advice to him would be to take it a little bit slowly, don’t rush back into it or try to go flat out. When you are really comfortable, then you can go flat out. It’s not a wise thing to go flat out from ball one. You don’t want to be hurt again,” said Ambrose during his interaction with Revsportz.
“Jasprit Bumrah is a wonderful bowler. He is very different from any of the fast bowlers I have seen, very unorthodox, but highly effective. When you are coming back from an injury after a long layoff, it’s always concerning for the bowler. You don’t want to get injured again and in the back of your mind, you don’t want to go flat out too soon,” the 59-year-old added.
