The final of the Global T20 Canada 2023 brought together Surrey Jaguars and Montreal Tigers at the CAA Centre. After an intense battle on the field, Montreal Tigers emerged victorious, securing the tournament title with an impressive 5-wicket win.
Montreal Tigers won the toss and elected to bowl, putting Surrey Jaguars in to bat first. The Jaguars managed to score 130/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Jatinder Singh was the standout performer for the Jaguars, scoring a well-crafted 56 runs off 57 deliveries. Ayaan Khan provided crucial support with a quickfire 26 runs off just 15 balls. Among the Montreal Tigers bowlers, Aayan Khan displayed an exceptional performance, claiming 2 wickets while conceding 21 runs in his four overs.
In response, Montreal Tigers chased down the target of 131 runs with composure, reaching 135/5 in 20 overs. Sherfane Rutherford’s brilliant knock of 38 runs off 29 deliveries played a pivotal role in their victory. His explosive batting included three fours and two sixes, earning him the well-deserved title of the Player of the Match.

Andre Russell hit a last ball six
In the crucial eighteenth over, Rutherford unleashed his attacking prowess against Matthew Forde, smashing a six and a four to reduce the equation to 25 runs required off 12 balls. Following Rutherford’s explosive display, Dipendra Singh retired to make way for Andre Russell (20 not out) to take the crease. The penultimate over, bowled by Spencer Johnson, proved to be tense as Russell and Rutherford piled on 12 runs. With just two runs needed off the final delivery, pacer Ammar Khalid found it difficult to contain the relentless onslaught from Russell, who hammered his second six of the over to secure the coveted silverware for the Tigers.

Surrey Jaguars’ bowling efforts were commendable, with Iftikhar Ahmed and Ayaan taking two wickets each, but it wasn’t enough to restrict the Tigers.
The match concluded with the Montreal Tigers reaching a total of 135/5, sealing their victory in a thrilling finale.
As a result of his consistent and impactful performances throughout the tournament, Rutherford was also awarded the Player of the Series title, adding another feather to his cap.
