In a significant development on the Indian Premier League (IPL) front, former cricketer and renowned IPL figure Gautam Gambhir is reportedly set to part ways with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) franchise and return to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the IPL 2024 season.

LSG recently transitioned from Andy Flower to Justin Langer as their new head coach.

According to a report in Dainik Jagran, all is not well between LSG and Gambhir. As a result, he is all set to part ways with the Lucknow-based franchise.

“After Andy Flower, Gautam Gambhir will now leave the IPL franchise. I can’t say anything further beyond this,” a source told the outlet.

MSK Prasad, the most recent inclusion in the coaching team of LSG, has a history of discord with Gambhir.

In the aftermath of the controversial choice to exclude Ambati Rayudu from India’s 2019 ODI World Cup squad, Gambhir had openly criticized the then-chairman Prasad for his comment about selecting a ‘three-dimensional’ player, which was presented as justification for choosing Vijay Shankar.

Gambhir’s Association with Kolkata Knight Riders:

Gambhir’s association with the Knight Riders is etched in IPL history. The left-handed opener had a highly successful stint with the franchise as both a player and a captain. Under his leadership, KKR clinched IPL titles in 2012 and 2014, solidifying their place as a formidable force in the tournament.

A New Chapter:

After his fruitful tenure with KKR, Gambhir transitioned to the role of a mentor and advisor. However, recent reports indicate that he is all set to return to the franchise in a new capacity.

Shift in Roles:

While details about Gambhir’s new role with KKR are yet to be officially confirmed, cricket enthusiasts and fans are abuzz with speculation about the nature of his involvement. The move is anticipated to bring a fresh perspective to the Kolkata-based franchise, leveraging his extensive cricketing knowledge and leadership experience.

The Super Giants’ Perspective:

A Waiting Game:

As cricket aficionados eagerly await official announcements from both the LSG and the KKR, the anticipated move has already sparked discussions about its potential impact on both teams and the IPL landscape as a whole.

An IPL Reunion:

If the reports hold true, Gambhir’s return to KKR will undoubtedly be met with excitement from the franchise’s loyal fanbase. His return would not only evoke memories of their previous successes but also raise expectations for the team’s performance in the IPL 2024 season.
