Lara was appointed as the head coach of Kavya Maran-owned SRH ahead of the 2023 IPL Auction, taking charge after the departure of former head coach Tom Moody. Previously, Lara had served as the strategic advisor and batting coach for SRH during IPL 2022, later being promoted to the role of head coach following Moody’s exit.
Under Lara’s coaching, however, Sunrisers faced significant challenges during the 2023 IPL edition, struggling to make an impact and eventually finishing at the bottom of the table. Out of 14 matches, the team managed to secure only four wins while losing 10 games.

Daniel Vettori to replace Brian Lara as SRH head coach
As the franchise looks forward to the upcoming IPL 2024 season, they have chosen to replace Lara with former New Zealand spinner Daniel Vettori as the new head coach. Vettori, who previously served as the head coach of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) from 2014 to 2018, brings a wealth of coaching experience to the role. He also served as the assistant coach of the Australia men’s cricket team.

In his previous stint as head coach in the IPL, Vettori steered RCB into the playoffs in 2015 and led them to the final in 2016. Currently, Vettori serves as the head coach of the Birmingham Phoenix men’s team in The Hundred tournament.
The appointment of Vettori as the head coach for IPL 2024 signals Sunrisers’ commitment to revitalizing their team’s performance and regaining their position as a formidable force in the highly competitive tournament. With Vettori’s expertise and track record of success in T20 cricket, SRH aims to bounce back stronger in the upcoming season.
