Southern Brave claim maiden title at The Hundred 2023

The final of The Hundred Women’s Competition 2023 witnessed a captivating clash between Southern Brave and Northern Superchargers on Sunday. Southern Brave displayed a terrific performance and won the contest to bag their first-ever Hundred title.

Danielle Wyatt propels Southern Brave to a competitive total

After being asked to bat, the Southern Brave posted a competitive total of 139/6 in their allotted 100 balls. Danielle Wyatt showcased exceptional form with the bat, amassing 59 runs off 38 deliveries, including 9 fours and 1 six.

Wyatt’s partnership with Freya Kemp, who contributed a rapid 31 off 17 balls, bolstered the team’s score. Georgia Adams (27 off 28) also chipped in with a valuable contribution. The Brave’s batting effort was bolstered by a combination of strong strokes and calculated aggression.

The Northern Superchargers bowlers fought hard to contain the Brave’s batting prowess. Kate Cross was the standout bowler for the Superchargers, claiming 3 crucial wickets for 21 runs. Grace Ballinger and Lucy Higham also made valuable contributions with the ball, taking 1 wicket each.

Disciplined bowling restrict Superchargers at 105

Chasing a target of 140, the Northern Superchargers struggled to gain momentum against a disciplined Southern Brave bowling attack. Jemimah Rodrigues (24 off 14) and Phoebe Litchfield (13 off 11) displayed flashes of brilliance but fell short of building substantial partnerships.

Lauren Bell emerged as a key figure for the Brave, securing 3 wickets for 21 runs. Chloe Tryon‘s 2 wickets for 28 runs also played a significant role in pegging back the Superchargers.

Despite the best efforts of some Superchargers’ batswomen, the team was ultimately bowled out for 105 runs in 94 balls, handing Southern Brave a 34-run victory.
