Tom Curran’s brilliant batting effort for Oval Invincibles
Facing an early collapse at 34/5, Oval Invincibles seemed to be faltering in the face of Manchester Originals’ onslaught. However, what followed was a remarkable display of skill, determination, and composure spearheaded by none other than Tom. Alongside partner-in-crime James Neesham, Tom showcased his prowess as they rebuilt the innings, steering the team to a competitive total of 161/5. Manchester Originals fails to chase the set target
Despite a promising start, Manchester Originals couldn’t maintain their momentum and eventually fell short of their chase. The efforts of Max Holden (37) and Jamie Overton (28) were commendable, but they were unable to bridge the gap, finishing their innings at 146/6. Tom also made his presence felt with the ball, securing a crucial wicket. His contributions didn’t go unnoticed, as he rightfully earned the coveted title of ‘Player of the Match’ for his stellar performance.
Tom Curran breaks MS Dhoni’s long-standing T20 record
In a historic moment, Tom not only propelled Oval Invincibles to their maiden The Hundred championship but also etched his name in cricket record books. His exceptional knock of 67 runs shattered the long-standing T20 record set by the legendary MS Dhoni. Tom’s innings rewrote the history of T20 cricket by becoming the highest score achieved by a batter batting at No.7 or lower in a T20 match.
The record previously held by Dhoni was achieved back in the 2013 final of the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he hammered 63 runs in 45 for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) against the Mumbai Indians (MI).
