Sohail Khan‘s phenomenal four-in-four bowling performance played a pivotal role in guiding the New York Warriors to a resounding victory over the Atlanta Warriors by six wickets in the US Masters T10 League match on Tuesday (August 22).

In the contest, the Atlanta Riders won the toss and chose to bat first. Openers Robin Uthappa and Lendl Simmons got off to a steady start, reaching the 50-run mark in the fifth over. Simmons, in particular, was in aggressive form, smashing three sixes and four boundaries in that period. By the seventh over, the Riders were at a comfortable 72/0.

Simmons played a pivotal role in the Atlanta Riders’ innings, amassing 41 runs before his departure in the 8th over. This strong start took the Riders to a score of 83/1 by the conclusion of that over. Following Simmons’ exit, Robin Uthappa, who contributed 32 runs, also departed. With Dwayne Smith and Hamilton Masakadza at the crease, the Riders were well-positioned at 98 for 2 after eight overs. Given the explosive batting lineup the Riders possessed, it seemed likely that they could achieve a total surpassing 130 runs. However, the game took a dramatic turn in the ninth over when Khan produced an incredible bowling spell.

Sohail Khan delivers an unbelievable bowling spell

On the first ball of the ninth over, Khan clean-bowled Masakadza, who was attempting a big shot but failed to make contact. Next, Hammad Azam was dismissed on the very next ball as the ball took an inside edge from the bat, hit the pads, and disturbed the stumps. Khan then completed his hat-trick by sending former New Zealand cricketer Grant Elliott back to the pavilion; Elliott was given out leg-before-wicket while trying to flick the ball towards the fine leg region.

Khan didn’t stop there; he knocked over Harmeet Singh on the next delivery, completing a remarkable four wickets in four balls. Smith and Nasir Hossain managed to take the Riders to 103/6 in their allotted 10 overs. Khan finished his spell with a figure of 4/15.

In response, the Warriors faced early setbacks as opener Kamran Akmal departed in the first over for just 4 runs, followed by the loss of Richard Levi in the second over. Nevertheless, Tillakaratne Dilshan and Jonathan Carter formed a crucial partnership. Dilshan showcased an aggressive batting approach but was dismissed for 24 in the fifth over, with the Warriors at 39/3. Shahid Afridi, a dangerous hitter, entered the scene with 62 runs needed in the final five overs.

Afridi and Carter launched a counter-attack, with Afridi taking charge. Nonetheless, he was eventually dismissed for 14 runs. In the last two overs, the Warriors required 30 runs to win, and they had six wickets in hand. Carter and Misbah-ul-Haq held their nerve and brought the equation down to 22 runs off the final over. Carter delivered an explosive performance, smashing three sixes, while Misbah added another, allowing the Warriors to secure a thrilling victory by six wickets.
