Tensions escalated during a gripping clash in the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) Division 1 tournament, as prominent batter Baba Aparajith found himself embroiled in a heated exchange with on-field umpires, as well as engaging in a verbal altercation with opposition players. Aparajith, a key player for the Young Stars Cricket Club, was at the center of controversy during a match against Jolly Rovers CC.

Amid the high-stakes encounter, the Young Stars Cricket Club faced adversity, with their score at 32 for 2 while chasing a target of 164. Aparajith entered the fray to bat alongside Sai Sudharsan in an effort to stabilize their innings. Together, they managed to navigate the innings beyond the 50-run threshold, steering their team towards recovery. However, controversy marred Aparajith’s innings as a contentious dismissal disrupted his contribution.

Disputable decision halts Aparajith’s stint at the crease

Aparajith, with a score of 32 to his name and a partnership of 40 runs with Sai, found himself at the center of a pivotal moment during the 18th over. Attempting to defend a delivery from Hari Nishaanth, Aparajith saw the ball turn sharply and make contact with his pad. The ball was then caught by a fielder stationed at short leg, sparking a fervent appeal from the fielding side. The umpire, persuaded by the appeal, raised his finger, signaling Aparajith’s dismissal.

Aparajith loses his cool

The decision, however, elicited a vehement response from Aparajith. The 29-year-old’s initial animated reaction reflected his disbelief at the umpire’s call. Subsequently, he engaged in a conversation with the umpire, contending that the ball had made contact with the ground before being caught by the fielder.

Following this exchange, the umpires discussed the matter, while Aparajith adamantly refused to leave the field. Despite the Chennai-born cricketer efforts to contest the decision, the umpires upheld their call, compelling Aparajith to exit the field after being adjudged caught at short leg.

The saga didn’t conclude with his departure from the field, as Aparajith confronted an opposition player before ultimately making his way back to the pavilion. Amidst this backdrop, Sudharsan, the promising talent, anchored the Young Stars Cricket Club’s innings with an unbeaten 67-run contribution. His partnership with Delhi’s Dhruv Shorey (29*) steered the team to a hard-fought four-wicket victory.
