In a scintillating clash at the iconic Lord’s cricket ground, Southern Brave emerged victorious against London Spirit by 5 wickets, adding another enthralling chapter to The Hundred Women’s Competition 2023.
Southern Brave’s decision to bowl after winning the toss paid dividends as their bowlers stifled the London Spirit batting lineup. The Spirit managed to post a total of 104/5 in 85 balls. They lost the prized scalp of opener Grace Harris on the 5th ball courtesy of a sensational delivery from Lauren Bell.
Bell came over the wicket and bowled a good length delivery that came in sharply, piercing the defence of Harris and thrashing the middle stump. Harris looked to play the ball on the long off region but the excessive swing did the trick for Bell.

Georgia Adams, Maia Bouchier sizzle in Southern Brave’s stunning win
After losing Harris early, Danielle Gibson‘s brisk knock of 28 off 20 deliveries and Heather Knight‘s impressive 44 off 27 balls formed the backbone of the innings. The rest of the batting order found it tough to accelerate, with contributions from Amelia Kerr (6), Richa Ghosh (1), Grace Scrivens (10), and Niamh Holland (7).
Southern Brave’s bowling attack exhibited exceptional control, with Georgia Adams being the standout performer, scalping 4 wickets for just 11 runs in her 4 overs. Bell and Anya Shrubsole chipped in with economical spells, while Chloe Tryon and Maitlan Brown also contained the opposition batters effectively.
In response, Southern Brave faced an early hiccup as Smriti Mandhana departed for a duck. However, Maia Bouchier‘s spectacular innings turned the tide in their favor. Bouchier’s masterful 63 off 42 balls, featuring 10 fours, proved to be the cornerstone of Southern Brave’s chase. Danielle Wyatt (12) and Maitlan Brown (15) provided valuable contributions, while Georgia Adams and Tryon chipped in with 6 and 4 runs respectively.
In the end, Southern Brave chased down the target in 82 balls, finishing at 108/5. Bouchier’s remarkable performance with the bat earned her the well-deserved Player of the Match award.
