Adam Gilchrist, the veteran Australian wicketkeeper-batter, has recently responded to reports suggesting that he believes the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) intends to preserve Sachin Tendulkar‘s record of 49 One Day International (ODI) centuries as an unbeatable milestone.

The cricketing world has been abuzz with speculation about whether India’s key players, including Kohli, are intentionally being rested for the first two ODIs of the upcoming series against Australia ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 to protect Tendulkar’s record. With 47 ODI centuries to his name, Kohli is just two centuries away from equaling the legendary “Little Master.”

Gilchrist, who himself was a prolific opening batter during his career, has put these speculations to rest. In a recent Twitter post, he clarified that such notions are merely conjecture and that there’s no concrete evidence to support the claim that the BCCI is deliberately keeping Kohli from reaching the milestone.

“Never said this,” tweeted Gilchrist in response to a fan’s quote which read: “Kohli is being rested on regular basis these days, I think they want Sachin’s record to be unbeaten.”

In the meantime, Virat – who is gearing up for his fourth ODI World Cup – has unfollowed Canada-based Punjabi singer Shubhneet Singh, popularly known as Shubh, on Instagram. This all happened after Shubh shared a controversial post on his Instagram story amid a diplomatic row between India and Canada.

The former India captain had earlier called the 26-year-old singer his favourite artist.
