Senior Indian fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar has shed light on his perspective regarding a potential return to the national cricket team. Currently captaining the Noida Super Kings in the Uttar Pradesh T20 League, Bhuvneshwar has been showcasing his all-round prowess with both bat and ball in the ongoing tournament. However, he revealed that his immediate priority is savouring the joy of cricket, rather than anguishing over his exclusion from the Indian team.
Bhuvneshwar, who made his debut for the Indian cricket team in 2012, was once a cornerstone of India’s white-ball bowling attack, renowned for his exceptional swing bowling skills. He earned plaudits for consistently troubling even the most adept batsmen with his ability to move the ball both ways. However, a series of persistent injuries and the emergence of young pace talents have seen the Meerut-born bowler lose his place in the pecking order.
In the interview with The National, Bhuvneshwar acknowledged the stage of his career where he recognizes he has only a few more years left as a fast bowler. Instead of obsessing over a national team comeback, he emphasized his current enjoyment of the game. He stated, “When you are at a stage when you know you are going to play only for a few more years – being a fast bowler – it hits you and you want to enjoy cricket. I am at that stage now.”

‘If things fall into place, I can make a comeback’: Bhuvneshwar
While acknowledging that he is not currently a part of the Indian team, Bhuvneshwar stressed that this fact does not perturb him. He clarified, “Yes, I am not part of the Indian team, but this does not bother me. It’s not that I am trying something different or planning anything new to come back. I am just focusing on playing cricket.”
Moreover, Bhuvneshwar mentioned that his focus is not solely on making a national team comeback at this point. However, he also reckoned that if fate allows he would return to the Indian team again.
“I am not playing just to make a comeback. I am doing what is needed to play good cricket. There might be a chance to make a comeback [to the Indian team]. But that is not my focus. Whatever format or leagues I play, I want to contribute. If things fall into place, I can make a comeback, but that is not my sole focus now,” added Bhuvneshwar.
