India won the toss and chose to bat, but their innings was a rollercoaster ride. Rohit Sharma‘s brilliant 53 off 48 balls, featuring 7 fours and 2 sixes, was a standout performance. However, the Indian team was eventually bowled out for 213 runs in 49.1 overs.

Shubman Gill (19), Virat Kohli (3), Ishan Kishan (33), KL Rahul (39), and Axar Patel (26) made noteworthy contributions. The Sri Lankan bowlers, led by Dunith Wellalage performed exceptionally well. Wellalage destroyed the Indian top order and ended up bagging a sensational five-wicket haul (5/40). Similarly, Charith Asalanka (4/18) also turned the heat with spectacular support.

Indian bowlers keep Sri Lanka batters at bay

Sri Lanka faced a paltry target of 214 runs but their top-order batters couldn’t convert their starts into substantial scores. Dhananjaya de Silva top-scored for Sri Lanka with 41 runs off 66 balls. Wellalage, who shined with the ball, played a crucial knock, scoring 42 runs off 46 balls, including 3 fours and 1 six.

However, Sri Lanka were eventually bowled out for 172 runs in 41.3 overs, falling short by 41 runs. Kuldeep Yadav impressed again with his splendid bowling. The left-arm chinaman bagged 4 wickets for 43 runs in 9.3 overs.
