In the world of cricket, few opinions hold as much weight as those coming from the players themselves. Their experience on the field, facing some of the best bowlers in the business, gives their assessments a unique perspective.

Recently, England all-rounder Chris Woakes weighed in on the ongoing debate about who the best all-format bowler in the world is. His choice may not come as a surprise to many cricket enthusiasts, but the reasoning behind it sheds light on the exceptional skills of the bowler in question.

Woakes expresses his admiration for Jasprit Bumrah

In an interview with Wisden ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023, Woakes expressed his admiration for India’s very own Jasprit Bumrah. Woakes didn’t hold back in his praise, stating that Bumrah could arguably be the best all-format bowler in the world. Woakes highlighted the uniqueness of Bumrah’s skills, emphasizing that he possesses all the attributes required to excel as a white-ball bowler.

“Jasprit Bumrah is the number one, I think, probably across all formats. He is pretty sensational with what he does, and he is unique, right? His action is different from anyone else, and he has got high pace, a gun slower ball, and a yorker on top. Everything you need as a white-ball bowler,” said Woakes.

A return after setbacks

Bumrah’s reputation in international cricket is nothing short of extraordinary. His unconventional bowling action has baffled batsmen worldwide, making him a constant threat. With the ability to consistently deliver high-speed deliveries, devastating slower balls, and pinpoint yorkers, the right-arm pacer has all the tools necessary to excel in limited-overs cricket.

Notably, Bumrah’s journey wasn’t without challenges. He recently made a remarkable comeback to international cricket following an 11-month hiatus due to a back injury. During this period of absence, India missed his exceptional bowling skills in several crucial tournaments and series.
